Thinking of taking the train to Hudson NY?

The train from New York City is an easy and convenient way to get to Hudson.  The track run along the Hudson River past some incredible scenery.  Don’t forget to bring your own snacks, though, as most of the trains no longer offer food or beverages.

First visit the Amtrak website and enter your dates of travel.  The code for Penn Station in New York City is NYP and the code for the Hudson train station is HUD.  Make sure to mention the ILOVENY discount in the promotion code to receive a 15% discount.

Next, once you have your dates select the train departure times first for your outbound trip and then for you return.  Keep in mind two things: check in and check out times: for The Barlow check in begins at 3:00 p.m. and check out is 11:00 a.m.  Guests are certainly welcome to drop off their bags and/or leave them at the hotel.  The Barlow, conveniently located right in the heart of downtown, is about a 15 minute walk from the Hudson train station or one of the local taxis can drop you off.

EnterpriseThird, some people who take the train still like the convenience of having a car.  Since all guests receive complimentary parking in the Municipal lot just behind the hotel, those guests can rent a car from Enterprise Rent-A-Car, which offers free pick up at the train station and a dedicated parking spot for drop off.  Call them prior to your train’s arrival and they will have someone meet you.

Fourth, and most importantly, don’t forget to book your reservation at The Barlow!

So if you’re thinking of taking the train to Hudson NY just remember your just for easy steps from experiencing all the things that make our city such a fantastic destination!

Fall Getaway – The Barlow

September 3, 2014 by The Barlow Hotel

HVM Fall Getaways

Fall getaways seem to be on everyone’s mind now that Labor Day has come and gone.  Just about this time each year Hudson Valley Magazine publishes an issue that focuses on places to see and things to do in the autumn entitled “Great Fall Getaways”.  The Hudson Valley is a no-brainer when it comes to looking at quick getaways as the weather starts to cool off, and Hudson is still “hot” even still.  Hudson Valley Magazine selected The Barlow as one of the preferred destinations for visitors to Hudson.  You can read the article here.

In addition to The Barlow (as the perfect lodging option) the article also focuses on some of The Barlow Privileges Partners: The Crimson Sparrow, one of our favorite eateries in Hudson; Spotty Dog Books and Ale, a great spot for a great local beer; Farm to Glass Tours, in it’s first year offering custom, small group tastings at local wineries, breweries and distilleries; the Columbia County Council on the Arts, a “one stop shopping spot” for all things art related in and around the county.

Beyond Hudson’s borders there’s much to do during your Fall Getaway around Columbia County – apple picking, hiking, leaf-peeping, cider tasting and more.  Cultural and performance events continue as well as Helsinki Hudson, another Privilege Partner, continues a tradition of presenting top name talent in a wide range of musical styles to appeal to almost everyone’s tastes.

Don’t have a car?  No worries.  Hudson is a stop on several Amtrak’s lines going to upstate New York, Canada, and Vermont with schedules throughout the day to fit into your schedule.  The easy two-hour journey is a beautiful ride right along the Hudson River passing by The Palisades, West Point, the Catskills and many other scenic views.  Check out Amtrak’s schedules here.  The Barlow is an easy 5 minute walk from the train station or there are usually taxis available as trains arrive into Hudson.

So now Labor Day has passed, and the holidays aren’t too far away, it’s time to start planning your perfect Fall Getaway.  Make sure to include a stay at The Barlow in your plans – check the most updated availability here.
